Emergency Response Pantry
Program
Since
Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, the Bay Area Food Bank has
distributed over 8.5 million pounds of food to hurricane victims on
the Mississippi and Alabama coasts. In the process of distributing
this food, we identified several obstacles for quick and effective
distribution.
In order to overcome one of these obstacles and make
distribution even more effective, using funds provided by
America’s Second Harvest, the Nations Food Bank Network we
developed the concept of an Emergency
Response Pantry.
We are currently implementing this concept in Alabama and
Mississippi, and seeking funds to build Emergency Response Pantries
in Florida.
