The Bay Area Food Bank’s "Backpacks for Kids" program, made possible by a grant from
Hasbro Children’s Foundation, provides a backpack filled
with nutritious food to children to take home on weekends.
Many parents work schedules that make it difficult for
them to be home every weekend, therefore their children may
skip meals at those times.
The backpacks consist of easy to prepare, one meal
entrees in pop-top cans. These
are items that do not have to be refrigerated, and can be
eaten straight out of the can, or heated in the microwave.
Also included in the backpacks are canned fruits and
vegetables and snack items.
