David Reaney was born in
Ottumwa
,
Iowa
and raised in
Bakersfield
,
California
. He enlisted in the Army as an Intelligence Analyst in 1969
attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant prior to commissioning
through the Officer Candidate program at
Fort Benning
,
Georgia
in 1974. He then served in intelligence and training
assignments over the next 26 years at 12 different locations
in the
United States
, Europe and
Asia
before retiring as a Colonel in January 2000.
In
April 2000 Mr. Reaney was appointed Executive Director of the
Bay Area Food Bank with responsibility for distributing
donated food throughout a 21 county service area in
Alabama
,
Mississippi
and
Florida
as a member of
America
’s Second Harvest, The Nation’s Food Bank Network. Since
2000 the organization has moved to a new facility, increased
distribution from 4 to over 12 million pounds annually,
acquired five refrigerated delivery vehicles, initiated
delivery operations into rural Alabama and opened a branch
warehouse in Pace, Florida. He currently serves on the Boards
of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce and the South Alabama
Chapter of the Military Officer’s Association of America as
well as President of the Alabama Association of Food Banks.
Mr. Reaney chairs the Resource Development Strategic Planning
Committee for
America
’s Second Harvest as well as working on the network’s
Rural Food Bank Forum.

Mr. Reaney has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the
University
of
New York
and a Master’s in Systems Management from the
University
of
Southern California
. He is a graduate of the US Air Force Air Command and
Staff
College
, The Director, National Security Agency Fellowship Program
and The US Army War College. His fifteen military service
awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal and the
Legion of Merit.
He
and his Wife, Monika, were married at Williams Air Force Base,
Arizona
in 1971 and have two grown children residing in
Maryland
and
Alabama
.
